    Purpose of the Position


    • The Coverage Coordinator reports to the Coverage Supervisor and is responsible for the off hours issues associated with customer inventories and delivery scheduling/execution. The Coverage Coordinator I position is an entry-level position in the NSC. It is also a position for developing personnel who are not yet ready for promotion to Coverage Coordinator II, or a Distribution Planner role.
    • The coordinator works weeknights and weekends in handling emergency and non-emergency issues with customers, drivers and associated Messer North America personnel. These may include; delivery, driver, tank, product, equipment, and Tel-tank issues.
    • This position will work closely with Distribution Planning Managers and Coverage Supervisor as well as other Distribution/Coverage planners and outside personnel including; Customer Engineering Services, Sales, Logistics, Safety, and Supply Field personnel to remedy problems and service the customers reliably, safely and economically.



    • Work with location management to resolve conflicts in the schedule created by the availability of equipment and drivers for dispatch and the number of stops, to best meet customer needs.
    • Help support the teams in meeting all safety goals set forth by distribution by planning and following all standards to ensure dangerous situations are avoided. These include both personal injury and avoidable truck accidents.
    • Help support the meeting of all costs goals for the scheduling team. These include unit costs per mile by product based on budget and baseline data. Coordinate dump sites for the lowest cost to Messer.
    • Follow notification procedures to ensure communication lines between field locations, schedulers, management, and coverage are complete and effective.
    • Manage and update data and information associated with the GOLD system and Tel-tank alarms including usage rates and notification requirements (Insuring driver portal and GOLD accuracy).
    • Report all service interruptions to Coverage Supervisor and the appropriate Distribution Planning Manager. When requested, help determine root cause and action items required to prevent similar incidents at customer sites.
    • Answer calls and enquiries for Domestic and International shipments of Gas and Liquid Helium; escalate for support within the Helium Team as required.
    • Answer incoming calls in support of the LifeGas business; escalate calls to LifeGas personnel as appropriate.
    • Answer incoming calls from customer in a courteous and professional manner. Determine issues and provide answers to questions as needed. Where a question cannot be directly answered, work to ensure it is properly escalated.
    • Provide feedback and information to CES on equipment or system performance including; Leaks, Tel-tank, usage or other installations issues as they arise.
    • Work with location management when issues of break downs, driver problems, or other location specific issues arise.
    • Act as the lead in the event of emergency efforts by working with Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality department on emergency response, spills, personal injury and vehicle accidents.
    • Become agents of change, supporting new system solutions to further improve business performance (e.g. driver portal, PeopleNet, etc.)

      • Assist in the meeting of Regional sales and profit goals through delivery of customer service and cost targets
      • Assist in the delivery of Messer Safety goals
      • Become fully engaged, and participate in coverage projects to advance performance of NSC




    • Bachelor Degree with concentration in business logistics preferred
    • Minimum 1 Year experience



    • Prior experience in trucking or distribution may be considered equivalent to a 4 year business degree
    • Prior experience in scheduling or logistics related field a plus
    • Availability to work 12 hour overnight shifts on staggered 4-5-5-4 shift
