Purpose of the Position: 

  • Account management for Competitor channel, including purchase, sale, swap and JV agreements. Includes price adjustments, competitor notifications, TOPs, renewals, budgeting, and overall management and of agreements, while working to align competitor portfolio to product & competitor strategy.
  • Manages Competitor channel P&L performance in alignment with over product and competitor strategy
  • Supports and provides back up for key interface for competitive interaction responsible for all commercial negotiations with industrial gas competitors – long & mid-term purchases, swaps, hold harmless, and sales for Bulk for North America.
  • Works with ASU, CO2, He/H2 Product Management & Strategy to align what we will buy/sell to each competitor and what deals are critical to each product line’s strategy.


Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Support interfaces with competitors on the purchase, sale and trading of product
  • Supports negotiations for purchase & sales agreements with competitors
  • Responsible for using salesforce and other sales & marketing tools (where appropriate) to manage sales portfolio for competitor channel.
  • Supports work with the ASU, CO2 and HE/H2 Product Management & Strategy team as well as Supply Chain Planning to identify profitable opportunities for product purchases, sales, trades and joint investment
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of competitor agreements to enable access by the Product Management team
  • Manage the RFQ process for competitor opportunities – with Messer acting as either buyer or seller.  Support strategic decision-making through an in-depth understanding of Messer products and network, and by providing competitive insight and next-best alternative analysis
  • Competitor channel interface for S&OP
  • Manage and support disputes & resolution process
  • Provide active support to Messer’s Payables and Receivables teams with respect to competitor accounts
  • Provide support to sales team with issues related to competitor activity as appropriate (hold harmless requirements, account transition from or to Messer, sourcing information.)
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting, presentations and analysis as required for competitor deal and portfolio management


It should be noted that this position must be flexible in its nature as the needs of the competitive interface do change over time.


Required Skills: 


  • Leadership, communication, strategic thinking, commercial acumen, negotiation, data analysis, financial modeling, MS-Office, Saleforce and ROCT(deal profitability tool)


Required Education: 

  • Masters Degree (desired)

  • BA in Engineering , Business Administration or similar field


Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5-7 Years- Business environment – familiarity with Messer’s commercial and/or operations a plus
